Biography
Laura Van Veen is a Musical Theatre Performer and Instructor currently residing in Chatham ON. Growing up performing in her hometown and abroad Laura is no stranger to the stage. With Credits such as Doreen in Girls in the Gang, Babe Williams in Pajama Game, The Queen in Cinderella, as well as starring roles in Grease, Starting Here Starting Now, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well an Living in Paris, and West Side Story, Laura is a vibrant figure on stage.
Since Graduating with a Musical Theatre Degree from Windsor ON, Laura has found herself busy with teaching, performing and producing. She quickly became a voice for a local radio station for 2 consecutive summers, as well as began a local Production Company which produced three successful sold out shows to audiences in the Chatham and Windsor Region. At the International Fringe Festival her third Production of "Know People Like Show People" received the Patrons Pick Award and went on to a sold out Audience at a dinner theatre venue.
Her focus then turned to teaching as she found herself landing a position as an Acting Instructor for The Great Big Theatre Company, and then as a Vocal and Piano Instructor for Yamaha's Children's Music Academy. During her years working under the Yamaha Children's Music Academy she grew a full roster of dedicated students, and soon became the full time Vocal Department Coach, becoming responsible for performances, the competitive team, as well as training of other vocal instructors.
During her primary teaching years she still continued performing and found that her love for radio and acting pushed her into the field of acting in Radio Drama's. First being featured in "Shadow of a Shape Shifter", followed by "A Christmas Carol", and later starring in "The House on Mulberry Hill", Laura has been fortunate to work with such Radio Stars as Barbara Rosenblat, Marssie Macotti, and New York Director George Zarr. All three radio features have been featured on radio stations locally and on a world scale. Most recently, Laura has moved back to her hometown and has opened her own teaching studio where she teaches Vocal, Piano, Theory, Guitar and Acting lessons to anyone with an interest in learning. The studio's focus is to make learning fun and exciting while learning along the way. Royal Conservatory Repertoire as well as Musical Theatre and Jazz Music are covered in lessons, with a focus on performing. She also finds herself busy producing, directing and performing in Muiscal Theatre Shows throughout South Western Ontario in independent shows as well as Fringe Festival Venues.
